Based on a poll, as well as feedback on Twitter and directly to us, Ning was the clear favorite over the previous social network technology from Confabb.

Ning has a nice, clean interface and a variety of tools to enable Affiliate Summit attendees to efficiently network with one another.

We send periodic emails to attendees with mission critical information, so it concerns me if somebody isn’t getting the information.

Whenever I check their registration information to see if we have the correct email address for people not receiving the updates, it’s pretty much always the same thing - they have one person at their company getting the emails for all of them.

I was reminded of this yesterday when we got the following:

I should be the primary contact. But please list [name removed] as the primary registrant.

So, that attendee will likely be left in the dark regarding any updates about Affiliate Summit 2008 East.

If this is the case in your company, I’d definitely encourage you to have the emails for each attendee attached to their registration records.

We don’t send much email, and we think the stuff we send is important for you to get the most out of the conference.

Shawn Collins of http://www.affiliatesummit.com talks about the Affiliate Summit group Twitter account, video of the “Un-Keynote” from Affiliate Summit 2008 West now available, and a new social network for the conference.

But we haven’t heard much from attendees about whether they liked it.

The current social network is available to check out at http://affiliatesummit.confabb.com.

Anyhow, Ning has lots of neat functionality and features, and we were considering a move over there.

I threw together an Affiliate Summit social network there at http://affiliatesummit.ning.com/.

I think Ning looks like it could be more useful to Affiliate Summit attendees, but would love to hear your thoughts.

So, What’s the Difference between the Merchant Mart and Meet Market?

Merchant Mart -

This merchant only concentrated area will be located within the exhibit hall (middle where it says Merchant Mart). We actually had quite a few attendees mention in their feedback, that they’d like one place where they could go to find new merchants. Now, they’ll have a place to specifically go for this purpose. They will be 2X6 tabletops as opposed to 10×10 booths. For more details, including pricing and what the package includes, please see… The Merchant Mart will be taking place on Monday and Tuesday, 10 to 5 within the Exhibit Hall.

Meet Market -

The Affiliate Meet Market is a 6 hour networking event that is taking place on Sunday August 10th only, this will be the same event that we’ve hosted at the last several shows. Similar to the Merchant Mart, exhibitors will be set up with a 2X6 tables as opposed to booths, see map here. Attendees can walk around and network with the different tables. Here are some pictures from our Vegas show that will give you a better idea of what the Meet Market looks like.

The closing keynote address of Affiliate Summit 2008 West was an un-keynote, where any Affiliate Summit attendees had the opportunity to step up to the microphone and speak.

A parade of attendees got up on the soapbox to share their perspectives, ideas, criticisms, and solutions for the affiliate marketing industry.

One of the speakers in this session was Zac Johnson, President/CEO of MoneyReign, Inc., took the microphone to serve up a rebuttal to the keynote address from the previous day by Jason Calacanis.

Just like we did in Las Vegas las February, we’ve set up an Affiliate Summit Twitter account at http://twitter.com/affsum where anybody who is on Twitter can post to the account by doing the following:
